Introducing DaddyMom TV

In my never-ending effort to over complicate expand capabilities of this site, we’re going to try tried a live broadcast from our road trip today. And, if had the Verizon Gods are been with us, you‘ll get would have seen live video along the way.

What happened to that spiffy broadcast?
The Verizon Gods were absolutely not with us–and won’t be anymore.

Today I discovered the V640 card I purchased about two years ago is no longer current to the Verizon network. No big. Figured I’d stop by and get an upgrade. After being passed over in favor of phone-buying customers, the Verizon rep knew less about my card than I do–and that’s not much. The V740 model number on the display unit seemed an obvious clue…

After 25 minutes of waiting and delay, they finally told me it would be about $100 for a new one–with a longer contract. I paid less than that for the card new.

Today was a potent reminder of past experiences with Verizon "service," which has never been, in my opinion, their strong suit. Once upon a time I had four phones PLUS the air card with Verizon. The iPhone first lured me to AT&T. Their service won the rest of my phone business. All that remained with Verizon until today was that card. Now, they don’t even have that.

How we’re spending our Memorial Day

The odder the better when it comes to excuses to pile into the Expedition for a road trip. And, only in TexasPicture_18 could a big hole elicit so much excitement. The Associated Press reports:

DAISETTA, Texas (AP) — Geologists said a 260-foot-deep sinkhole that grew to the length of
three football fields over just two days seemed to be slowing down Thursday, but that it could take months before it’s clear whether surrounding areas are stable.

The 900-foot-long sinkhole, with crumbling dirt around its edges resembling sharp teeth, has swallowed up oil tanks and barrels, tires, telephone poles and several vehicles in Daisetta, a once-booming oil town of about 1,000 residents about 60 miles northeast of Houston.

Wee-ooo, mama–load up the cooler, we’re on the road!

More details to come. But, really, how many more details could you possibly use?

BSO: Bright shiny objects

When I created DrivingWithDaddyMom, it was to share our summer travel adventures. Then, it morphed into our family travel blog. Still good. And then, more content for more reasons began muddling our zeitgeist. That just won’t do. So, I’m getting our Feng back with its Shui and granting these things their own realm, suitably titled: Bright shiny objects.

And now for something completely familiar
The band Weezer created this video using send-ups of videos popular on UTube. Watch the song and see how many you can spot:

Zuzu’s screen test

Video on the web. It’s a huge which has only begun building and we’re working hard to hang ten before it fully crests. I’m experimenting with a video encoding services. Here’s a test featuring my precious Zuzu:

St. Cyril’s Thanksgiving

Here’s a perfect BSO. A new video my firm just produced about St. Cyril of Alexandria Catholic Church’s annual Thanksgiving Dinner. The effort by the church’s homeless committee is a four-month labor of love. Watch the video and learn more. (This video is a sample of the product we’re now offering clients to promote their businesses on the web.)

This is a test of a new video provider:

Meet Asta

Meet Asta

Our circle of five became a circle of six when we added Asta to the passenger manifest.

He is a Maltese puppy purchases at the John Paul II Catholic School auction gala: "007–a time to Bond." So, it only seemed fitting we come up with a related name for him: Asta Martin.

Asta was the name of Nick and Nora’s dog from The Thin Man. Martin for 007’s DB-5 Aston-Martin. The 5 is a fit since he will now be my 5th baby.

Harry Truman once opined that, "if you want a friend…get a dog."

Meet our new friend.

John cranks it up

John cranks it up

Upon return, it was John’s turn to perform trailer duty. Boy scouts is
boy led and it did my heart good to see mine swing into action. (No
matter how big he gets, John will always be my little man!)
