2782.0 MILES: So long, Portland. Can’t wait to come back. Next stop: a b&b in Boise–a mere 428 miles up the road.

Oregon & New Jersey

8269.5 MILES: How are these two states alike? They’re the only two states I know of where The Man (how folks here refer to government) prohibits self-service gas. And still, gas here is ten-cents cheaper than Houston–where we MAKE the stuff. Go figure.

2702.0 MILES: Time to start the trek home to Houston, leaving what Lewis & Clark called Elk Creek in 1806. They came here in search of a new delicacy shared with them by local indians: whale blubber. See? Even back then people didn’t eat right.

It’s curtains for Cannon Beach

CANNON BEACH: Named for a cannon that washed ashore from the USS Sloop of War "Shark," sunk while attempting to leave the Columbia River in 1846, Cannon Beach is a return-worthy destination. I wrapped up my visit last night seeing See How They Run. Local theatre is so fun.

Apple iPhone’s best sales tool: The Palm Treo

Everything you’ve read and seen since we left Houston has been authored on my trusty Treo. I use "trusty" loosely. Repeated freezes are about to drive me to the closest Apple store… Despite me decision to wait for the next version (v.2 from Apple is always a better choice), the current Treo version may put me over the edge. (This posting Rated R for rationalization!)
