A day this Grandparent wouldn’t miss

Grandparents Day is a huge deal at John Paul II. At Saint Agnes? It’s a morning presentation and box lunch. That didn’t matter to Grammy. She made the trip specifically to be there for Kate. Grammy saw first-hand why I’m so proud of Kate’s freshman year performance at Saint Agnes Academy.

Double helpings of Thanksgiving

Because Grammy was in town for Grandparents Day at Saint Agnes, we actually had two Thanksgiving celebrations this year. The Sunday before, Grammy took charge of the kitchen and created her usual gastronomic fun-fest.

From cranberries to bird, Grammy handled the show shibang—with some help from the Monkey Troop.

All hail Chef Grammy

Nobody wants to be late when Grammy rings the dinner bell. We were joined this year by Sandie, Grant and Kyle. Good thing. We would be eating turkey till Christmas without their help.

Line forms on the right

There’s no dinner like a Grammy dinner. While it’s a feast for the kids, it’s treat for me to see Grammy so tickled-pink. What you and I might consider a huge chore, is a mission of love for her.

Grammy can’t take all the credit

Kate got up early Sunday morning and personally make–from scratch–these tasty rolls. It was her idea and she did it all herself. They tasted even better than they look.

Thanksgiving, part deux

When Thursday came around, we were still finishing up the last of our Sunday feast. So, we just made it a low-key day and did what people do on Thanksgiving: watch the parade and poke fun at the syrupy-sweet copy appropriately delivered by Matt and Meredith. Seriously, could they make it any more phony-baloney plastic-banana bad?

R.I.P. Padaidai

A sad morning. Stella checked on her beloved guinea pig only to discover it had passed away last night. Plenty of food and water. Comfortable in its cage. No solace to Stella. It breaks my heart to see her so sad.

Aiming to be an all-region player

Stella and I were up and out early this morning for All Region Band auditions. Auditions were held at Sealy High School–about 45 minutes west of Casa Moger.

Our table of band members were just a small contingent among the assembled multitude of band geeks gathered from across the region.

Even though most of those picked were 8th graders, Stella learned a lot from the experience. She is a winner because she took the lesson and left the loss behind.
