Following God’s Direction

61eu6ldhfml_aa240_This afternoon, I stopped in at The Blue Willow Bookshop–an independent bookshop worthy of support. My purpose was to get a Moleskin Notebook as a gift for a client who wants one. Found it and then fell victim to that funny quirk of my gender.

It’s a proven fact, men cannot walk into a store and buy ONE thing. If they need a screwdriver, they’ll also buy some tape. Went for a quart of milk, come back with cookies too.

So, I got directions to the travel section and on the next to bottom shelf, I found this gem. I opened to a page at random and was surprised to learn that much of our trip will be along The Oregon Trail. Go figure. With a few small adjustments, we can come back via “America’s Highway.”

Both routes are extensively documented and boast page after page of things to look for, places to stop, and hotels along the way. Places worth skipping are noted too. For instance, Topeka is described as,

“…a vast tract of plazas and strip malls.”

Look for us there!

Nick of time

Today’s the last day to get Summer Super Savers on Southwest Airlines. I didn’t know that. Just happened to trip across it on the web. Phuew. Part of the reason for this trip is saving some dead presidents. Kate will fly ahead of us by a couple weeks. John returns a few weeks after we return. That way both get solo time  with Grammy.

Comparing with Continental, I saved 50% by sending them on “The Company Plane.” Put another way, what we saved puts gas in the tank all the way from Houston to Salt Lake and part way to Boise. Then again, it also leaves more money for useless trinkets along the way!

The journey begins

It’s said a vacation begins the minute you buy the tickets. For us, the journey begins with buy-in. Rather than mounting the massive (and expensive) airlift this Summer, we’re going on the road! The kids travel to Utah and dad continues solo for a week to find the pictures God has waiting for me.

This is a journal of our adventure. From planning to driving and coming home, read along and feel like you’re riding along on Summer Tour ’07: Driving with DaddyMom!
