PORTLAND: How fitting to end my first day with a tasty Pinot Noir. Cristom is from the Louise Vineyard not far from where I sit. There are a couple things I’d like to see tomorrow. But, I may switxh out my plans and head out to explore a couple wineries. When in Willamette, after all…

PORTLAND: Voodoo Doughnuts is without a doubt the most unusual stops on the tour. And, yes, we had a Voodoo Doughnut; chocolate covered and filled with jelly. Say your curse and run it through with a pretzel until the "blood" rushes out. The owner actually ran for mayor. Instead of speeches, he read poetry. Alternative transportation? Pogo sticks.

PORTLAND: Here is the sumptuous Hotel DeLuxe. and, boy howdy, is it! The whole place is wicked retro with Sinatra (from the Columbia years) playing, and an LCD wall mural that flipped pictures of Astaire/Rodgers and the like… Fun I’m off for my first walking tour…

2500.0 MILES: Here’s the view at 2500 miles into the journey. By my calculations, this marks the halfway point for the whole trip–and it’s just 30 minutes from Portland. Weather: Sunny, 79 degrees. Dig THAT!
