Gut bucket country

Gut bucket country

1495.8 MILES: Back in my boyhood, I remember when my step-dad Selwyn would punish bad behavior by tuning the radio to stations playing horrible music by Merle, Hank, Patsy, Jones, Pride and many more. It was horrible then. Maybe it’s being over 45 or something, but those old country songs sound good and fit the ground we’re covering across Wyoming. (Now playing: George Hamilton IV singing A Rose And A Baby Ruth)

1451.5 MILES: Almost forgot to send this one… I filled up the Expedition last night before bedding down in Cheyenne. The irony of the source of the fuel and the branding pictured here gave me a laugh.

1415.6 MILES: We’re crossing the Continental Divide. Elevation 7,000 feet, it’s all down hill from here!

Lots of nothing

1341.9 MILES: If ever you take the drive west on I-80 out of Cheyenne, get what you need before leaving. There is nothing out here. I think it was Alan Shepperd who used words as fitting here as when he used them to describe the moon’s surface: beautiful desolation.

1293.7 MILES: We’ve departed Cheyenne for our final hop to Sandy and Camp Grammy. The scenery up here is stunning. I am so glad we did this. The kids are seeing things they would never have seen otherwise.
