Why oh Wyoming

Why oh Wyoming

1249.4 MILES: This picture was snapped just as we crested the hill crossing over from Colorado into Wyoming; that’s Cheyenne off to the right. Cheyenne has always just been a lyric in a George Strait song to me. Now I know why he chose it. Wyoming is a cowboy place; made me wish I’d brought my boots… It is also a major rail center. There are classic pictures of trains making the turnouts to get up this high. John has been glued to the truck’s windows like a bug caught at high speed. It’s nice to see his little boy love of trains is still alive and well in him. Day two is done. Tomorrow: it’s a quick hop to Camp Grammy!

Mile high dinner

1158.6 MILES: We took a vote and decided on BBQ for dinner. The GPS kept pointing us to really skanky places. So, I whipped out the Treo and, using the new Yelp service, we were pointed here: Big Hoss Natural Bar-B-Q. Located in the Tennyson area of Denver, it reminds me of Brookline back when I was going to Emerson–a 30-somethings neighborhood, homes in retrofit… A great meal. Next stop: dreamyland for the babies in Cheyenne.

1151.1 MILES: This sure seems familiar. Crawling through Denver afternoon drive traffic.

1144.7 MILES: Poor boo-boo. She crashed yesterday too. She’s doing her best, but all this sitting, snacking and movie watching is taking its toll… She’ll have to get up soon: stopping for dinner in Denver.

John’s POV

John's POV

1111.1 MILES: Back in the third row, John sits amidst the coolers, snacks, and supplies. He is the go-to guy when munchies kick in. This is what he’s been looking at for the past eleven-hundred miles. (35 more to Denver)
