Two minutes

Gates at either end of The Oklahoma National Memorial are time stamped. One reads 9:01, the other 9:03. In two minutes the innocence of this place was obliterated, taking 168 lives (19 of them children), with it. This is sacred ground covered with silence that speaks to the soul. Simple chairs, one for each life taken, sit empty where the federal building once stood. If you have only known breathtaking as a word, a visit here will drive a deeper meaning.

9:02

A quick hop up I-35 from DFW and we’ve arrived in Oklahoma City. Since we’re about 3 hours ahead of schedule (thanks to the whiz-kid GoogleMaps math), weLre stopping to see the OK City Memorial today.

I don’t think we’re in Texas, Tonto

347 MILES: A sure sign we’ve left Texas: Casino gambling. It’s the oddest thing, but holding the wheel of my surry, I can almost feel the wind sweeping down off the plains…

Where else could we find free microwave service, but from CBS in Dallas? (Don’t tell Les it was free!) My pal Buffalo Bob gave us cut-rate pricing… Just $5k. Talk about NTR! Thanks to Karen and all at KRLD for making our first meal stop so much fun!
