Of all the brochures to be found, John spotted one for the narrow gauge trains along the Portland seafront. Lovingly restored by about 100 volunteers, our ride was the perfect answer to a foggy seacoast morning.
Roadtrip 2011
This is the last DaddyMom road trip as we know them. By the time we tear another 12 months from the calendar, Grant and Kyle will join the Monkey Troop after Sandie and I marry in October. And, John will be about to leave for college. While not truly a DaddyMom anymore, I'll treasure the title every day God gives me on this earth.

Maine summer swimming: a chilling experience
What a great idea: a quick canoe ride for Stella and Kate. Except, that wind sure is blowing strong across the lake.
Zuzu took a more direct approach, cutting out the boat and jumping in for a swim. She quickly learned this wasn’t the Texas-temp she expected to find.
Before they could untie the painter, the wind had them at a perfect 45-degree angle from the dock. They decided to abort. Unfortunately, it wasn’t that easy.
Stella took matters into her own hands, jumping in to push the boat where they couldn’t take it with oars alone.
So, why didn’t Kate jump in to help too? She was content to wait for the dock. She kept telling Stella, “it’s not THAT cold…” But, it really IS that cold. Stella quit a couple times, but wouldn’t leave Kate out there.
Finally, Kate promised: if you get me back to the dock, I’ll get in the water too. Fair enough, figured Stella.
Once rescued, Kate inched into the water. No quick dunk like Stella had. So, Zuzu stepped up to “help” Kate with splashes of icy Sebagoness.

Fresh from their aquatic adventures, I’m wondering how the girls will feel about the even chillier Atlantic waters off Cape Cod.
Another day another state
Our ride on the Mountain Coaster and lunch behind us, the kids settled into road nap mode until the road began weaving through Maine’s lakes region.
Before long, we arrived at our next destination: Sebago Lake Lodge. Seeing the lake, the canoes, and time on the clock, the girls were anxious to get in the water. What happened next was an experience that makes these trips worth the effort and expense.
