Roadtrip 2011

This is the last DaddyMom road trip as we know them. By the time we tear another 12 months from the calendar, Grant and Kyle will join the Monkey Troop after Sandie and I marry in October. And, John will be about to leave for college. While not truly a DaddyMom anymore, I'll treasure the title every day God gives me on this earth.

Space gets tight, The monkey troop gets restless

At 8pm, gates to the island where we’ve spent the day will be closed. National Guardsmen will stop more people from cramming in. Honestly, they could have done so an hour ago.

Meanwhile, my little monkeys are getting testy. Ahhh, good times on a family trip.

We took time to walk up and see the stage where Keith Lockheart and The Boston Pops will perform live on national television.

Counting down to showtime

How we spent 11 hours on the 4th of July waiting for a 25 minute fireworks show:

There is something so right about spending the 4th of July where all this began.

Last time I was here, I was their age. How the years have changed me. Then again, not that much.

You choose: concert or fireworks

20110704-110326.jpg
Contrary to what it might seem on television, you have a choice here in Boston: see the concert or see the fireworks. The Hatchshell is at one end of the Esplanade, surrounded by tall trees. The fireworks are sent aloft from barges about a half mile down the river. So, you have to pick which you want to see. We (I) picked the fireworks. Martina McBride we can see anytime. This fireworks show is a once-in-a-lifetime treat. Just ten hours to go.

We are ready for showtime. Those barges in the background are launchpads for the fireworks. Just a short 11 hours from now.
