I was saddened to read that Penske Automotive was pulling out of its effort to purchase Saturn from GM, thereby dooming the brand to extinction. What’s this have to do with driving with DaddyMom?
Tracey and I moved to Texas in 1986 with a 1983 Volkswagen Rabbit GTi trailing behind our little yellow truck; Tracey and I wanted to ride together instead of driving separately. Of course, the fact that my three year-old Rabbit lacked A/C might have had something to do with it.
Fast forward to 1993: the first trimester of John’s pending arrival. Tracey looks deep in my eyes and says, “if you don’t buy me a car with air conditioning, I’ll give birth to a fried egg.”
What did she want more than any other car? This one: (actually, one like it)
A great car which we outgrew (before it was paid for) when Kate arrived in ’96. I can’t pass one on the road without remembering how Tracey was crying with joy the day she drove it home from the dealership. R.I.P. Saturn.
